About
Dr. Madhu B. Vijayappa is a board-certified neurologist and neurointerventional specialist with a distinguished background in stroke care, neurointerventional procedures, and academic research. He completed his medical education at Bangalore Medical College in India, then pursued further training in the United States — completing an internal medicine internship and neurology residency (serving as Chief Resident) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria/OSF.
He further specialized with fellowships in Clinical Research in Neurosonology and Stroke at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School, and in Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at the Texas Stroke Institute. Dr. Vijayappa currently practices stroke and neurointervention at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, United Neurosciences in Bakersfield, CA, and Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, and has held academic appointments including Clinical Assistant Professor at Michigan State University.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Vijayappa has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on neurosonology, cerebral aneurysms, stroke in patients with ventricular assist devices, and the impact of statins on intracerebral hemorrhage. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Heart Association Stroke Council, and Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology.
