Our Story

How We Started

United Neuroscience Institute was born from a shared conviction: that the patients of California’s Central Valley — and communities like them across the country — deserve access to the same subspecialty clinical expertise available at the nation’s leading academic medical centers.

In the fall of 2015, Dr. Kiron Thomas and Dr. Venkata Dandamudi — both fellowship-trained at Tufts University in neurology, Neurocritical Care, and interventional neurology — in collaboration with Dr. Hari Prasad Veedu, founded United Neuroscience in Bakersfield, California. The name reflects something intentional: UNI is about partnership — between patient and physician, between clinic and hospital, and between our team and the communities we serve.

What began as a focused inpatient neurology and outpatient practice has grown into one of the most comprehensive neurology and neurosurgery groups in the Central Valley — over 20 specialists, in-house Neurosurgeons, a robust telestroke and tele-neurology network, and active academic programs serving patients across California and beyond.

Today, UNI is proud to serve a diverse patient community across Kern County, partnering with leading health systems, training the next generation of Neurologists, and advancing the standard of brain and spine care that every Central Valley patient deserves.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission

To provide the most advanced, most compassionate, and most accessible brain and spine care to every patient we serve — while training the next generation of providers and contributing to the advancement of clinical neurology and neurosurgery.

Excellence

We bring fellowship-trained subspecialty expertise to every patient encounter. Our clinicians are held to academic standards — in diagnosis, in treatment, and in the care experience we provide.

Accessibility

We serve patients across Kern County and the Central Valley, including a significant portion on Medi-Cal. Advanced brain and spine care should be available to every member of our community.

Education

We train residents, fellows, medical students, and clinical staff through direct patient care. A culture of learning makes us better clinicians — and makes our community healthier.

Community

We show up — at stroke walks, community health events, hospital partnerships, and outreach programs — because our commitment extends well beyond the clinic.
