Acute Stroke Care
United Neuroscience was among the first groups to bring endovascular stroke therapy to Bakersfield and the Central Valley — and we continue to lead the region in acute stroke intervention, CT perfusion-based imaging, and telestroke coverage.
Every second counts in acute stroke.
Pioneering Regional Leadership
United Neuroscience was among the first groups to bring endovascular stroke treatment and neurointerventional surgery to Bakersfield and the Central Valley. We continue to lead the region in acute stroke intervention, mechanical thrombectomy, and CT perfusion-based extended-window care.
24/7 Telestroke Network
Immediate access to stroke neurologists via our telestroke platform, enabling rapid diagnosis, treatment decisions, and thrombolytic therapy initiation at partner hospitals.
Evidence-Based Excellence
Academic approach grounded in the latest research, quality metrics, and continuous education. We’re actively involved in stroke quality improvement initiatives with all our hospital partners.
Advanced Stroke Care, Immediate Response
United Neuroscience was the first to bring endovascular stroke therapy to Bakersfield and the Central Valley. Our fellowship-trained stroke Neurologists and neurointerventionalists provide 24/7 acute stroke coverage — from initial telestroke consultation through definitive treatment, Neuro ICU management, and transition to outpatient rehabilitation and secondary prevention. We partner with health systems across California, including Dignity Health and Adventist Health, and in the Midwest through Essentia Health — ensuring expert stroke care reaches patients throughout our network.
Comprehensive Acute Stroke Services
Tele-Stroke Consultations
Real-time video consultations with stroke neurologists for immediate assessment, tPA eligibility determination, and treatment guidance at network hospitals.
Endovascular Thrombectomy
Advanced mechanical clot retrieval for large vessel occlusions, performed by our neurointerventional specialists trained in the latest catheter-based techniques.
Stroke Quality & Protocols
Rapid response systems including CT/MRI interpretation, vascular imaging review, and treatment coordination with emergency departments and intensive care units.
Neuro ICU
Specialized intensive care for stroke patients requiring advanced monitoring, management of complications, and neurological support during the critical recovery period.
Recognizing Stroke: Act FAST
Time really is brain.
-
F
Face Drooping
Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. -
A
Arm Weakness
Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. -
S
Speech Difficulty
Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? -
T
Time to Call 911
If someone shows any of these symptoms, even temporarily, call 911 immediately.
CT Perfusion & Extended-Window Stroke
Modern stroke care is no longer limited by the clock alone. Using CT perfusion imaging, our stroke Neurologists identify salvageable brain tissue — the ischemic penumbra — to guide treatment decisions up to 24 hours after symptom onset, informed by landmark trials including DAWN and DEFUSE-3, as well as emerging evidence on large core infarction (ANGEL-ASPECT, SELECT2). We apply current AHA/ASA and SVIN guidelines rigorously, and we do not give up on patients with salvageable brain tissue. Every case is approached with the same commitment: preserve as much function as possible, for as long as possible.
