Subspecialty focus within neuroscience disciplines.
Effective and safe treatments for the multitude of neurological diseases, often with devastating symptoms and natural history, depends on getting the right diagnosis at the earliest. Many of the neurological conditions have mimics which could be either be benign where a missed or delayed diagnosis could mean your irreversible and unfavorable outcomes, or, mistaken for more serious pathologies, treatment trials for which could mean unnecessary exposure to risks of the same. The providers at United Neuroscience take take pride in being able to accurately diagnose conditions which are relatively rare and unimaginably complex by employing cutting edge technology for its diagnosis and management. We continually strive to push the hospitals and other healthcare facilities such as imaging centers on bringing the frontiers of neuroscience to Bakersfield. Our providers always champion the 'cause of neurosciences' in town, passed numerous milestones in technological sophistication and diagnostic prowess.
Multidisciplinary approach within the vast realm of clinical neuroscience is key to understanding and treating complex neurological pathology such as brain arteriovenous malformations, and refractory seizures. We focus our efforts in bringing the best talent from across the country and outside to build neuroscience program that is at par with any urban centers in the United States. UNI is proud of its unique and robust Epilepsy-Electroencephalography program and our association with the only Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) in almost 100 mile radius. All providers and staff participate in scheduled weekly case conferences and literature review meetings. The 'clinical neurology-neurosurgery under the same roof' approach is unique. As part of the epilepsy consortium lead by USC, providers participate in the weekly epilepsy-surgical planning conference. Our providers and clinical associates regularly participate, publish and present at healthcare conferences and peer meetings.
About 11 years ago, UNI providers performed the first endovascular brain aneurysm treatment where, instead of a surgery opening the skull to clip a ruptured or unruptured brain aneurysm, the condition is treated by a minimally invasive procedure where obtaining tube, catheter is inserted through an artery in the groin and guided into the aneurysm to fill it up with tiny platinum coils, just like a dentist would treat a tooth cavity. Since then, there have been several 'first-in-town' in neuroendovascular surgery by our providers. The addition of the skull base-vascular neurosurgeon to our team has now taken our efforts to the next level.
Our providers are often the program leaders of the respective neurological and neurosurgical subdisciplines at the major hospitals in Bakersfield, providing direction for programmatic advancement, and emergent health care services. On occasion, the provider may thus be late for your appointment, we apologize in advance and request your kind understanding that another person with a more immediate often life-threatening condition, is being helped. Our commitment is to bring world class treatment approaches in clinical neuroscience to you!
We are indebted to you for choosing your neurological and neurosurgical care at UNI!
